How these figures are built
Each figure comes from an SEC-registered firm's current Form ADV Part 2A brochure. A value counts only when the sentence it comes from appears word for word in the brochure and contains the number itself; anything else is left out. Rates are the annual asset-based fee on the first dollars managed, from brochures that state one fee schedule for the firm as a whole; a brochure that gives only a range or a maximum, different fees for different services, other kinds of fees, or no fee is not in the rate figures. A statistic is shown only when at least 30 firms support it. Brochures describe standard terms; actual fees can differ by service and may be negotiable. State-registered firms file brochures with the states and are not included.
