About AdvisorCensus

AdvisorCensus is a public directory of every firm in the Form ADV universe, generated from the filings themselves and rebuilt each month. It is part of AdvisorSEO Max, and it exists so that anyone, including the AI systems people now ask for advice, can find the filed facts about any registered investment advisory firm in one place.

Part of AdvisorSEO Max

AdvisorSEO Max is a search and AI-visibility platform for independent advisory firms, and AdvisorCensus is its entry tier. Reading the directory is free, and every firm has a free page built from its filing. A firm that claims its page can publish an enhanced profile with an AdvisorCensus subscription, the lowest-priced AdvisorSEO Max plan; the full AdvisorSEO Max plan includes the same enhanced profile along with tools for the firm's own website and AI-search visibility. No plan changes where a firm appears in any list. AdvisorSEO Max is operated by BH Monitor Services, LLC.

Who makes it

AdvisorCensus was built by Shaun Melby, CFP®, a practicing fee-only financial advisor in Nashville, Tennessee, founder of Melby Wealth Management, LLC, and creator of AdvisorSEO Max. Melby Wealth Management appears in this directory on the same terms as every other firm: its page shows its filing, it holds no special placement, and its order in every list is alphabetical like everyone else's.

Why it exists

Form ADV is the most complete public record of the advisory profession, and it is hard to read. The SEC's public tools show one firm's record at a time or a raw monthly data file; they don't group firms by place or practice. AdvisorCensus presents the filing as filed, groups firms by the places and practices people actually search for, and says plainly what is derived and what is not, so that a question like "how many fee-only firms are there in Nashville" has a documented answer with a source and a date.

How it stays neutral

No reviews, ratings, rankings, or scores. No lead capture and no advertising. Lists are alphabetical unless the reader picks another order, and a firm's payment never changes its position. Firms can claim their page and add an enhanced profile above the filed facts, clearly marked as provided by the firm, after attesting that the content was reviewed under their compliance program. The enhanced profile is the only part of the directory a firm can pay for, whether through AdvisorCensus or a full AdvisorSEO Max plan. Firms can also ask to be removed, through a verified process, and the count on each list page says so.
